The cottage lies about 50 metres from Back Beach itself, the shingle and sand stretch along the river where locals favour calmer waters over the open seafront. Boats move in and out of the harbour, and on clearer days the outline of Dartmoor appears upriver.

The livelier town beach, promenade and Victorian pier sit roughly 250 metres away, while independent shops, pubs and seafood spots cluster close by. The passenger ferry to Shaldon departs from a point nearby, giving quick access to that village’s bakeries and coastal walks.
