Teignmouth Players Amateur Dramatic Society

The Teignmouth Players Amateur Dramatic Society has kept live theatre alive in the town for over six decades. A group of dedicated volunteers shares a passion for performance and works together to stage productions that appeal to a wide audience. The society focuses on enjoyment while building skills and confidence among members.

Based in the Ice Factory Studio Theatre, the Players make use of a converted historic building that once supplied ice to local fishermen. This compact venue provides an intimate space where audiences sit close to the action, creating a direct connection between performers and viewers. The air-conditioned auditorium seats 50 and suits the society’s approach to thoughtful, character-driven plays as well as lively ensemble pieces.

Productions cover a broad range. Comedies offer sharp wit and timing, while thrillers build tension through clever staging in the small space. Classics receive fresh interpretations, and one-act plays allow experimentation with new ideas. The annual pantomime remains a firm favourite, bringing families together with traditional humour and audience participation.

Beyond the stage, the society welcomes involvement in many roles. Members contribute to directing, set building, lighting, sound, costumes, props, front of house duties, and administration. Training happens in-house, and the group supports those who want to develop further

A youth section, known as T.Y.K.E.S, gives younger members chances to perform and learn alongside experienced adults. Social events strengthen the sense of community among the membership.

The Ice Factory sits tucked away in Somerset Place, just off the main streets yet convenient for the town centre. This central position places it near everyday amenities and transport links. The society also uses other local venues when needed, ensuring performances remain accessible across Teignmouth.

Active membership keeps the group running. Volunteers handle everything from maintenance to programming, sustaining live theatre through shared effort. The Players continue to offer a place where locals can engage with drama, whether by watching or taking part.
