Sanctuary Cottage stands at the heart of Shaldon, overlooking the leafy village green in this quiet Regency settlement on the south bank of the Teign estuary. The position places guests within easy reach of both the water and the village’s everyday rhythm, while the cottage itself combines retained character – exposed beams, an open fire – with thoughtful contemporary updates.

Inside, the ground floor flows around a spacious kitchen and dining area equipped with induction hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer, and plenty of smaller conveniences such as a wine chiller and warming drawer.

A comfortable sitting room offers a Smart TV, while a separate snug provides a quieter corner warmed by the woodburning stove. Also on the ground floor is a wet room with walk-in shower; in warmer months the glass roof can be removed to create an open courtyard feel.

Upstairs, three bedrooms sleep six in total. Two super-king rooms can be configured as twins on request, and one of these has its own en-suite shower room. A third double bedroom shares the family bathroom, which includes a bath with overhead shower.

A small front patio furnished with table and chairs catches the afternoon sun and looks directly onto the green, giving a gentle sense of village life passing by.

Shaldon itself retains the scale and pace of a proper village rather than a resort. A handful of independent shops, tea rooms, and pubs lie within a couple of minutes’ walk, and the shingle beach at the estuary mouth is just over half a mile away. A passenger ferry crosses to Teignmouth throughout much of the year, opening up the larger town’s pier, promenade, and wider sandy beach without needing the car.

The surrounding coastline offers straightforward walks along the South West Coast Path, while nearby attractions include the botanical gardens, a small wildlife trust site, and an approachable golf course.
